How Cockroach Control Works
Cockroach work is a sequence, not a single spray. Here is what the process looks like from the first call through follow-up, and why each step exists.

The six stages

Describe the problem
Species clues matter: size, color, where the roaches appear and what time of day. Small striped roaches in a kitchen point somewhere very different than large reddish roaches in a garage.

Property and history review
Square footage, affected rooms, moisture issues, building type and previous treatments. Repeat activity after over-the-counter sprays usually means harborage was never reached.

Inspection
A technician confirms the species and maps harborage — cabinet and appliance voids, plumbing penetrations, drains, wall voids, exterior mulch lines and utility openings. Monitors are often placed.

Targeted treatment
Gel bait into harborage for indoor-breeding populations, crack-and-crevice applications rather than broad surface spraying, and exterior perimeter work where outdoor species are involved. Products are used according to label directions.

Exclusion and conditions
Sealing gaps around pipes, adding door sweeps, restoring dry floor drain traps, correcting leaks and reducing clutter. Without this step, outdoor roaches keep re-entering.

Monitoring and follow-up
Monitor counts show whether activity is dropping. Follow-up visits address hatch cycles and any areas still producing catches.

Preparation
What to do before a visit
Follow the specific instructions your provider gives you — they vary by treatment method, and over-cleaning before a bait treatment can actually scatter a population. Common requests include:
- Clear items from under kitchen and bathroom sinks
- Store or cover food, and put pet food in sealed containers
- Clean grease from around and under appliances
- Remove cardboard boxes and paper clutter
- Provide access to garages, laundry areas and utility closets
- Note where and when you have seen activity so nothing gets missed
